One of the criteria added to DIY provided etc is "economic" - this would be one of those cases used in your request, quoting the $ numbers.
I, too, feel you should not have a problem.

I'll be hoping this can be approved. $1100.00 for a rebuilt fuel pump is absurd

The overhaul kit sold by then and now has all of the items required by the fuel pump ad at less than half the price. If I get it approved the price each year goes dowm

just curious what the reason is for the fuel pump overhaul? I have an oil leak at my fuel pump which we thought was the mounting gasket but after replacing the gasket I still have a leak!

VARMA is the Vintage Aircraft Replacement and Modification Article which was designed to allow older aircraft to be repaired with off-the-shelf parts which are no longer available from aircraft suppliers.
EAA Article
A friend of mine used a VARMA approval to use a starter from NAPA auto parts because it's the one that was originally used by the aircraft manufacturer. Similarly, the Ercoupe mechanical fuel pump was originally an automotive part, and VARMA approval could be used to allow installation of an automotive replacement part.
