There should be scat running from that hole to a flapper valve on the firewall, providing fresh air to the cabin

Hello on the newer nose bowl of the Ercoupe’s what’s the purpose of the small hole?
As stated by univair “ nose cowl assembly with cold air intake hole” what is the purpose of the cold air intake hole?
