The 73 year old tachs and airspeed indicators should never be relied on until confirmed. I use an optical digital tach and GPS for accuracy. I like low pitch props for max climb and carrying more RPM for cruise. You can't cruise until after you clear the trees.

James, if I flew in your turf, I’d have a 46 pitch as well.
Cheers, buddy.

Hi Gale. Yes, as Ken said, I have a 46" pitch climb prop. 95 is about what I do at cruise 2350 rpm. I envy the people who see 115mph! Actually, I'm OK with it, I fly at a lot of 5000'+ airports, so the climb is much needed.

Gale, this is a four year old thread. FYI.
I believe that James intentionally cruises at reduced power. He has a 46 inch climb prop and cruises at 2350 rpm. He says he gets a GPS ground speed of 95 in calm air.

James, what prop do you have? Watching your YouTube stuff, I felt you were not getting good cruise. Maybe wrong, but I noticed a lot of 85/2350, and thought you must have a climb prop.

I would keep it at 71 inches and reduce the pitch to a 48 or 46 inch to get the desired RPM. Less pitch, more power, more climb.
