I would recommend you find the biggest real locksmith shop and hand them the key, and ask them if they can duplicate it.

They probably won’t care, but, if they ask what it’s for. Tell them it’s for your toolbox.

In a worst case scenario you could bring the entire key switch assembly in to a real locksmith and have them work their magic, overhaul the unit and given you a new set of keys.

Again they probably won’t care. But if they ask, tell them it’s for a tractor.

If they don’t have the correct key blank. I’d call Vernon Gregory at Skyport. With the correct key blank any locksmith should be able to duplicate it.  He probably has plenty of good used ones with keys as well.

Perhaps you could find one of those key duplication kiosks? That way you keep you original and they send the duplication to you if the machine doesn't have the blank in it, no questions asked.

Ignition Key Duplication was created by Jim Kadel
I am having difficulty finding an ignition key duplication store/agency who has a blank key to make a duplicate key for my '46 Ercoupe.   One store informed me they are not willing to make a duplication key for any aircraft because of the potential liability,  I am reluctant to mail the key to any agency for duplication because it is my only one.   Anyone else experienced this problem?     Jim Kadel   N87124
